With the intention of introducing the Brazilian public to the work of French landscape artist Auguste François Marie Glaziou (1833-1906), the exhibition Glaziou e os jardins sinuosos (Glaziou and the Winding Gardens), curated by Anna Paula Martins, took place at the Botanical Gardens, from November 2009 to January 2010. The exhibition was produced by Automatica, using a series of stands along with graphic displays in the area. A a wide range of original documentation of “Glaziou” work was shown.

This exhibition presented images and projects rearding the decisive role this landscape artist had on the urban development of Rio de Janeiro in the nineteenth century, for the first time ever. This exhibition relied on a large professional staff, and included projections and an original sound track.

Between November 2008 and February 2009, the collective Chelpa Ferro exhibited in the Museu de Arte de Pampulha, Belo Horizonte, the installation Acusma. It consisted of a set of ceramic vases connected to speakers and cables, causing a sort of sound hallucination. The contrast between the delicate craftsmanship of the vases and the auditive disturbance created by the sound piece is the core of this work, once again produced by Automatica.

This time with the work of João Modé, Automatica produced an exhibition for Projeto Respiração (Project Respiration). Conceived by curator Marcio Doctors, the idea of establishing a connection between the classic collection of the Fundação Eva Klabin and contemporary art became, over the years, one of the major initiatives in the area of Brazilian visual arts.

For this edition, João Modé offers with Invisíveis (Invisibles), small and subtle transformations in the pieces making up the collection of the house, presenting an esthetic viewing into the memory of its famous inhabitant. In the sounds and smells of the past, in the memory of the experience of other times and in recording the passage of time, Modé created an atmosphere both affectionate and challenging to the sensitivity of each visitor.

Between January and March 2008, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo exhibited the project Totoro, conceived by the collective Chelpa Ferro. Produced by Automatica, Totoro, was a complex exhibition, specifically developed for the space of the Octógono, in the Pinacoteca. Using a soundtrack composed by the group, several devices were integrated to allow the sound to occupy the exhibition space of the museum. A pulley system, with the help of a pre-programmed engine, moved a set of speakers up and down, and made them disappear, from time to time, into a wooden tube in the center of the room.

Working once again with Chelpa Ferro, Automática produced in December 2008, a grandiose presentation of the collective in the Teatro Oi Casa Grande, in Rio de Janeiro. The concert was part of Mutiplicidade (Mutliplicity), an event curated permanently by Batman Zavareze. With unprecendented spectacle created specially for this program, A Autopsia da Cigarra Gigante (The Autopsy of the Giant Cicada), gathered deconstructive pieces of classic music that were played by an orchestra conducted by the maestro, composer, arranger, instrumentalist and music producer Jacques Morelenbaum. Furthermore, Chelpa Ferro showed projections establishing a conversation between unusual instruments, incense, samplers, as well as with their Moby Dick, a giant drum set converted into a sculptural installation created by the group themselves.

With the purpose of celebrating the 50th anniversary of Teatro Oficina, Heloisa Buarque de Holanda conceived a tribute in the shape of an exhibition. By inviting three curators related to the universe of the Theater as well as to the Oficina itself — Alberto Renault, Camila Mota and Lucas Wegliski — the exhibition established a dense dialogue between the group’s history (and its emblematic director José Celso Martinez Corrêa) and the space of the Centro Cultural dos Correios. Archive material, notebooks, manifests, films unknown to the public and various records about the pieces of the group made up the material of the exhibition.

Conceived by Heloisa Buarque de Holanda and curated by Henrique Lins de Barros, the exhibition H2O faced the challenge of showing, in an innovative format, the history and role of water in our daily lives . Installed at the Arte SESC of Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro, H2O provided, with originality, a wide range of material embracing the theme. Through well conceived projections and back lights, the ambiance of the show involved the public visually and it was able to integrate image and information efficiently.
